Muscle pain or myalgia is a condition that occurs in most people usually due to stress, minor injuries, and tension. These cramps usually trigger a few muscles. The infection of the soft tissues, overexertion, and inflammatory conditions are a few of the reasons which are associated with muscle pain. This pain is really difficult to neglect, it is usually temporary, however, in most cases, it becomes a complex problem when it is not actually due to overexertion. 

Types of Muscles Pain

Myalgia comprises two categories, pain due to physical activity and pain not associated with physical activity. 

Pain Associated with Physical Activity 

When you feel pain after or during any exercise, this pain is usually because of the physical activity you perform. This pain appears right after the exercise and stays for 24 hours or more sometimes. The soreness or stiffness, strains, and cramps are majorly the causes of this type of pain. 

Pain Not Associated with Physical Activity 

You might experience some muscle cramps, which are not usually the cause of any physical activity. Such pain is because of some virus or any other medical condition. This type of pain means you need to consult your doctor.

The Common Symptoms

Muscle pain is of course related to muscles of the legs, hands, shoulder, back, abdomen, and hips. The symptoms are somatic, but they also have some chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia. The common symptoms are;

  • Fever
  • Swelling
  • Pins and Needles
  • Shooting pains
  • Tenderness
  • Numbness
  • Redness
  • Stiffness

Causes of Muscles Pain

Flu

Flu virus brings congestion and fever, which leads to muscle pain usually the back, shoulders, and legs hurt. When the virus leaves, muscle pain also gets better. If your flu, pain, and cough don’t go away, consult your doctor.

Blood Flow Issues

There is a condition known as claudication, which occurs due to blood flow problems in the muscles. In this condition, the muscles are not getting blood properly, which causes pain in the arms, legs, or sometimes both.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Sometimes people go through extreme tiredness, which is the major symptom of the condition. Mental strain or exercise may make it worse, not even rest can give relief. This syndrome can also cause muscle pain, headaches, memory problems, sore throat, sleeping problems, and joint pain.

Medications

Medication known as statins is utilized to control high blood pressure, and the people who take these medications report muscle pain. In this case, it is important to consult the doctor before it worsens.

Prevention

Stiffness, soreness, and cramps are commonly associated with muscle pain. But some particular muscle pain relates to some serious problems. In this case, those people are recommended to take medical consultation and proper treatment.

To relieve the pain, it has been suggested to stretch or massage the painful muscles, take the heat, and take prescribed pain killers. Cold packs are recommended if the pain is due to a certain injury, also compress the painful muscle with the bandage. If your pain didn’t hang on, then use muscle relaxants instead of pain killers.
