Parents are always worried about the change in behaviors and an increase in anger in their kids. They are always looking for ways to keep themselves calm and finding the triggers that are increasing their furiousness. Well, the best thing parents can try is a calm-down corner. A calm-down corner at home not just beneficial for the children where they can control their tantrums and anger, but it is the spot where your toddler starts its pre-school learning. This helps them learn important skills and how to regulate anger and emotions.

We all understand that toddler throw tantrum and have big emotions, but there is a question always pop up that how they learn to associate to an ambitious tantrum occasionally? They don’t know how to deal with their emotions and what to do with that anger, taking a deep breath and relaxing is not in their toolkit. So here the idea of a calm-down corner stands a big role.

What Calm-down Corner is?

In the calm-down corner, children start to learn how to regulate their big emotions and how to engage the mind. They can relax and release their emotions in a safe manner. It is simply a space where children are surrounded by some books, a mat, colorful curtains, a basket with some stuff for sensory activities, fancy toys that help them learn, and colorful walls. When children are in the calm-down corner they feel empowered, confident, independent, and responsible.

When to create a Calm-down Corner?

You might be using the time out technique with your kids and wanted to transition to the calm-down corner also, you probably wanted to incorporate both the techniques. But when to use the calm-down a d time out is always a question! Here you will get some basics.

For Overstimulation

If you have already tried the timeouts on your kids in past like on breaking the house rules, and disrespectful behavior, switching to the calm-down corner all of a sudden will confuse them. To come over that, use it in situations of heightened emotions and overstimulation. Too much excitement could be harmful, encourage them to use the calm-down corner to control themselves.

Before things shoot up

A calm-down corner is a place that should remain open always. It is a soothing and relaxing area where children enter and calm themselves whenever needed. Here there is a big role of parents in helping the children identify the signals when they are getting out of control. Those signals are shouting, scolding, raising brows, throwing things, change in behavior, not eating, highly stimulated, not talking to anybody, and throwing tantrums.

When Kids Identify

One of the significant benefits of the calm-down corner boosts the self-confidence and independence of children. Your baby very soon starts to learn and recognize when he needs to use the calm-down corner to control their emotions. When this occurs, it implies your kid has finally learned the process of regulating emotions.

Few parents stay worried about the behavioral change in their children, they found them more difficult than others. Sometimes they are very furious, energetic, throwing tantrums, and do things that make parents amazed. Parents usually speak about the challenges that they experience when they have kids that are not easy to handle. Usually, people say firstborn babies are so quiet and easy, however, you never know how typical they could be. Children are unpredictable whether they are first, second or third born, parents can never guess their temperaments and instincts.

Some children rarely make any trouble when they turn 1. Usually, it has been observed that when kids reach their toddling stage, they become more quick and sharp. At that age, they start to understand things, try to express their emotions and needs. But, as children grow and reach the age of nine they go with the flow. In the beginning, you perhaps have a harder time with them because few things might be different in your kid as you heard from others. When you have a hand full of solutions and ways you can nearly do everything.

There are difficulties for sure, but it’s not just about parents, it’s challenging for the kids too. The temperament in infants can help predict the behavior of a kid in adolescence. The children who are born with reactive temperament, those babies reacted to noise and lights and it became hard to soothe them.

Having a difficult baby doesn’t mean that now you and your baby will have hard times together. However, there is always a connection and controversy between nature and nurture. Parents, teachers, and other children possibly play a big role in controlling and shaping the behavior of children. You can also say that there is a great impact of good parenting on the behavior of children. Consistent and thoughtful parenting can benefit kids with tougher temperament.

Ways to Handle

There are some ways that could help you in some corner of your parenting. These dynamics will make you think for a while whether you are paying attention to these situations or not?

  • Always notice the things that your child likes to do when he is throwing temperaments. Like throwing clothes while you are in the kitchen. Use the preventive measures that do not lead the kid to do it again.
  • Keep yourself calm, if you are calm you can easily handle the behavior. Keep a neutral tone, and stay steady and teach your child how to stop bad behaviors.
  • If your child is misbehaving, instead of reacting harshly, explain to them that doing that is wrong. Make them understand how bad behaviors could affect others.
  • The best strategy to praise the good behavior of your child is bestowing rewards, this is the best time to make promises and boost self-confidence and positive behaviors.
  • Children need attention, so whenever they are expressing their happiness or sadness let them explain it. Listen to them carefully rather than reacting or scolding them, if there is something wrong explain them politely.

The biggest milestone children come across when they are at school-age is learning to read. Once they begin to read at some stages they do not understand the words. But when parents get involved with the reading children start to discover those magical words. The storybooks for the beginners opens doors for the kids to read and learn new words and understand the story by the pictures on each page. The stories children love to read are Harry Potter, Frog and Toad, and more. It is a fun thing for children to read stories with parents, it gives time to spend with each other also.

Well, it is important for the kids to read the books on their own, this leads them to learn reading by their selves and build their reading skills. Although, it is important for the parents to read along with them that make the children strong readers. Here are some common reasons that tell how important reading with kids is.

Increased Reading Time Means No Screen Time

When parents build the reading part as a schedule in daily life, it will automatically reduce the time that usually children love to spend on screens. If your children use mobile phones or other tech devices, make sure they are watching some educational content that makes them learn. There is a big role of parents in managing screen time.

Helps Practice Reading Out Loud and Confidently

When children spend a good time reading with their children, it grows the reading skills. You can make reading a fun thing for your kids by setting the turns of reading aloud with them. This boosts self-confidence, which plays a key role in reading at school. This enhances the pronoun cation and vocabs as well. Reading gives access to educational improvement also.

Stimulates Love for Books

When parents include reading as a part of the daily routine the same as eating together. When children observe you reading your book, they love to read their books. This cultivates the love for books and kids start to crave for a new story when they are done with one. This reading habit lasts a lifetime and helps make your kid a good reader.

Make it Fun

Reading is always a fun thing, but here comes a big role for parents. Well, yes you are grown up, but it doesn’t mean you cannot have fun reading books with your kids. Choose a story that has some mystery, fun, and magic, in short, that builds the interest of children. If you want your children to become healthy and happy, play with them, and elaborate the story by adding fun to it.

Strengthen the Relationship between Children and Parents

Reading connects parents with their children and builds a strong bond when they spend most of the time together. This gives room to children and a comfort zone that allows them to express and share the feelings, opinions, and thoughts. This makes them communicate and share their opinion.

When babies start growing they begin to point out things in their surroundings to interact and communicate in their way. Babies do not speak or make people understand what they want, thereby they use pointing skills to share and interact in the early stages. Sometimes kids point out when they want something or need the attention of the people in their surroundings. Kids don’t know how to interact and when they get the attention they clap with joy whenever people respond to them and talk.

This is the quickest gesture that usually they learn, not by anyone but on their own. It seems simple to us, but it is something complicated thoughts and considerations that kids embrace in the quick gestures. Studies have shown that the way children point out implies that they know the future and present events, moreover they are aware of the objects that are not there.

The index finger they point means that they are telling you something, and when you point out something they quickly figure out what you are trying to tell them. This is a natural process by which children make people understand them.

Maintain and Encourage the Interaction

Children start to show the gestures when they see people around them as they want to interact and get their attention. Whenever you see your little one raising the index finger and pointing out anything, respond promptly with joy, and acknowledge your attention. As you show your presence and interact it increases the understanding of your child and enabling him to involve you in the process.

When you sing poems or anything and reading the stories around your baby is a good way to increase the interest in his/her surroundings. This makes the children respond to you in their way when you read stories they will point out the pictures when you sing they will move your hands, and when you play with the toys they show interest and try to copy. This will make pointing the finger a fun thing for your little one and they learn the pointing skills.

Language Development

In the early stages, toddlers don’t know how to speak and what is language. They try to communicate by pointing out things and try to communicate in their language. Well, pointing is something that stimulates your kid, as your little one got the visual way to communicate with you for whatever they want. This is the first step towards language development in children. Whenever your child points out any object from his/her surroundings tell him the name and for what purpose it is used.

There could be some Differences in Pointing Skills

Parents usually get worried when they see their children not responding or pointing out objects. Some children are quick learners and pointers and other children take adults to the object they want. When toddlers once start to develop verbal skills, they use words instead of gestures. But if the children are not using pointing skills or not seeking your attention till 18 months, then there is a need to contact the pediatrician.

When you become a mother there are new things that come alongside. One of the big concerns of moms is time management which is something you can never close your eyes on. When you are tied between your kids, households, and your other activities, a big question arises, ‘where to start?’ There are different responsibilities for both a working woman and a housewife. For many, a stressful workplace is a big concern. Moms are always fighting to take out time for themselves when it became really hard to handle and things are getting more stressful.

You probably remain worried about getting things done as soon as you can. Here are some tips that would help you with time management. With these tips, you can get some fun time with kids, quality time with your spouse, and can give yourself a few hours for nearly forgotten me-time.

Start Multitasking

Multitasking is considered one of the most effective parts of time management that come on top of the list. Just imagine you are doing things double at a time! Well, multitasking could become a fad of time management but it becomes effective when it is done appropriately. Sometimes multitasking comes with errors and no accuracy and again you get back to focus on only one thing. To make multitasking effective pair the mindless task with the mindful task. Just like take a business call when you are on your routine walk, help your kids with homework when you are cleaning the kitchen.

Go for the Shortcuts

Shortcuts are always a blessing, if you can afford them, get the pre-cut vegetables and canned sauces for the dinner. Dishwashers can also help with uncleaned dishes more quickly. Time management means to find the shortest route that makes your tasks easy and quick.

Stay Flexible

It is important to maintain flexibility for the tasks that are unexpected. Mom can encounter some of the unexpected things like sick kids, occasional work, spilled milk, the arrival of the guest, and other stuff. When you spend your days in a rhythm and keeping some time cushion and back up plans for the unexpected things it becomes easy to manage and adjust the hiccups with the daily tasks.

Organize yourself

When it comes to time management, another important aspect is organizing yourself. When you are all set for the day in advance and stuff is organized you eliminate the chances of taking double appointments, lost homework, and other mishaps that usually moms face. In a nutshell, being organized means running with a schedule, there should be a disciplined strategy for the households and other important errands concerning, kids and work (if you are a working mother), managing things together become easy when you start organizing it.

Learn to Say!

Saying no in the appropriate situation is something very important for moms. Mother comes across many requests but it is not important you are always ready to do with your little one. You may think saying no will disappoint someone, but you never know will disappoint more if you become unable to do it. Learn where and when to say no, look at your priorities and learn to say no for the things that are not actually important.

Being a mom of two means double duties, most probably you see different or same feeding time, crying time, and sleeping time. Well, this all brings you grief when things start to slip from your hands. Now all you are left with is penning down the stuff as you never know what you would forget in the hurries. I am a mother of two, and yes there is a double workload. More clothes to wash, more feeding stuff to clean and manage, and toys and diapers everywhere. Most of the time I found no time for myself, and I always runs for ways to avoid overwhelming situations.

When I get to know that I am expecting again, I become so happy, but once I thought baby number two means more work! Indeed it was a blessing from God, and He gives the capacity to my heart to love more. The brain worry double and work double, but it easy because you can handle this! I am a working woman and work full-time, it is hard to perform duties as it has some more difficult challenges, but I accept them, here I am sharing how I manage things, and you can also try them!

Try Amazing Organization Skills

Well, now you are a mom of two, and probably you have forgotten to organize the stuff, not packing the blanket, not organizing the cupboards, and have so many things already in pending. Now, you have to prepare some organization skills, all you got to do is pen down the to-do-things like where to go, what to buy, and what to do next. There are double activities of two like the appointment of a doctor, birthdays, and other activities. Once you start focusing on organization skills you will find it easy to come up with the errands.

Take Proper Rest

For a few years, you are not taking proper rest and sleep, as things get really difficult with two. You must be surprised how you get done on four hours of sleep. As you are sleep dispossessed doesn’t mean the sleeping pattern has gone. Whenever you got time, squeeze to sleep, as some good sleeping hours go a long way. Always remember, the ambition will never perish as you popped out another baby. Take rest during day time you got breaks in the office, instead of spending most of the time eating, get off to your cabin, find a peaceful place, close your eyes and take some rest. But, don’t forget to set the alarm in case you snoozed.

Preparing the Meals

When you have two kids, the meals will double your efforts. If you want to make it easy, set a timer, and prepare a meal plan. When you have a proper end time and no worries about the guesswork you can get time for other stuff. It would help you in preparing the table setting all the spoons, cups, bowls, and plates on the table for everyone. At dinner time you have to breastfeed or make the bottle for your little one, so give some healthy snacks to your elder one so he could munch it until you are feeding.

The title must trigger all the mothers reading it out, but I should say that’s true. I know this is something difficult, even for the women who do not work. Well, yeah parenting is such a tough task, and I also get to know it when I hold my baby for the first time. Let me tell you all that I am a mother of a five years old girl, and she is so sharp and intelligent. When I was pregnant people make me scared of motherhood and the baby’s errands. I got tensed about how I would manage things as I am a working woman and I have to rejoin after 3 months.

The thing I learned in this duration is how to listen to your heart and follow the brain messages instead of listening to other people. After delivery, I stayed in panic for about 2 weeks, as yes it was the postpartum stress also. But, once I was putting my baby to sleep I just wondered does all of my panics, anxiety, stress, and depression would affect my baby? And my heart says yes!

I am not saying that forget yourself when you become a mum. The thing is when you feel a little soul in you, it automatically builds devotion, in motherhood you are ready to anything for your baby, so why not make the burdens fun as all we are doing is for our little one!

I used to google all the possible ways through which I can handle my postpartum stress, start to take proper diet, and yes exercise. It is important to keep yourself fit and active if you want to make things smooth.

All this keep going, and the time finally arrived, from which I stayed scared before delivery, but, when I learned to manage tasks, I warmly welcome it. I am blessed that I have people around me so there was nothing to get worried about where the baby will stay, but again nothing could replace a mother.

I work on the sleeping patterns of my baby with my sleeping time, feed her after every 2 hours (as I used to set the alarm), and pack her bag before leaving for the office. When I get back I used to do all of her tasks on my own and give complete time. I used to prepare food from my one hand as my daughter on another hand. With time I learned to do things with one hand because I enjoy being with her even if I am working.

Now she is 5, and yes she is too attached to me, she understands that her mother is a working woman, she understands I have to work, and she waits for me. Working moms usually think they cannot handle work, children, and home chores together, but the thing to always consider is, never bring work home as it disturbs your personal life, until there is any urgency. When children see their moms on phone and are stuck with office work they detached from them. This is what I do, I love to spend time with her, when I get back we go for outings with my husband, and we play together, do homework, and it makes me feel good after a tiring day!

Whether you have enough time or almost no time for the errands, you might be unable to find the ways to deal with your stress at best and worst both, resulting in complete paralysis exhaustion. This is all about modern parenting. If you have the parents of grownups, they must be spending much of the time in their own life, at school and outside with friends. But, the opposite goes for the underage children, from packing the lunch, bag and all stuff to getting them to sleep all is the responsibility of parents. Maintaining a homely environment that has almost everything is all you need to do to handle the duties properly.

Well, if you agree or not, but parenting and children with some special needs put an extra layer of burden. A load of tasks and home is intolerable. From sacrificing the enriched activities to keeping yourself busy in homely tasks is all we say a big life change.

Nobody of you has ever thought of ‘parental burnout’ or ‘exhaustion.’ We all might not mindful of that but researches have proven it as a syndrome. But, never mix up Parental burnout with professional burnout. In both syndromes, the situations are different. Parents usually go through three situations, one is inefficiency; in which parents are unable to show productivity or efficiency, second is exhaustion; in these situations, parents just become unable to take control of themselves, their feelings and stress, and the third one is emotional distancing and depersonalization.

When you are struggling with the night terrors and of course your kid is at the stage where he wakes up at night you must be stressing more and having almost no sleep. It might be a matter of ages, right? Along with the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, it’s only you who can handle your stress levels, as ‘Only You Know You!’ Having almost no proper 6-hour sleep means you are at the maximum of frustration.

Whatever the situation is, all you need to do is work on your sleep and energize yourself as much as you can. Well, talk therapy is the best solution as well. But, you need to be specific with yourself, if you are all healthy you can keep others healthy, your health comes first.

Work on your Sleeping Hours and Boost your Energy

We all have no idea about the significant benefits of taking hours of sleep. However, there are hundreds of studies are there that show how lack of sleep can affect your daily routine and energy level. When you are not taking enough sleep you are unable to focus, pay attention to your children, disconnect yourself, no motivation, and diving in the day with no sleep. If you are not taking out time for sleep just take out some hours to take rest or have naps. Don’t stick your mind to daily tasks just try to handle them mindfully and calmly.

Moreover, what next you can do is boost your energy by filling your cup, having physical activity, go outside even with your kids, and use breathing techniques to keep yourself relaxed.
